xD-Picture Cards


The xD-Picture Card is a type of ultra-compact memory media that has been developed jointly by Fujifilm and Olympus. It meets the demands of new camera technologies that deliver larger image files and have the ability to record high-quality movie footage. xD picture cards have a high read/write performance and are only 2 grams in weight. xD cards are used in Olympus and Fujifilm digital cameras and Olympus digital voice recorders; Fujifilm also made an MP3 player (xD-MP3) that used the cards. xD cards are available in capacities of 16 MB up to 2 GiB.

Usually there is 3 types of XD card S, M and H, main difference between XD cards S, M, and H is there speed.

  • Type M XD picture card is with a writes speed of 2.5mb/s and reads speed of 4.0mb/s.
  • Type S XD picture card is with a writes speed of 3MB/Sec and read speed of 5MB/Sec.
  • Type H XD picture card is 2-3 times faster than the standard or Type M XD Picture Card.
